Spray Foam
The Inside Story on Green Insulation
Most home and business owners are familiar with R-value as it relates to the energy efficiency of insulation materials such as fiberglass batting. It's generally accepted that by using the appropriate R-valued materials throughout a structure, a building is insulated to the highest degree possible. Unfortunately, R-value does not take into account air leakage–a key factor in determining a building's overall energy efficiency. Because spray foam insulation "grows" as it is installed, it effectively fills the cracks and crevices traditional fiberglass batting cannot; as a result, spray foam materials provide better insulation–up to 50% more in energy savings.
